Space Open was tasked with developing an overall site masterplan at this hillside property in San Anselmo. The initial phase of construction focuses on the arrival experience and enhancing views up from the house.
A series of existing rock wall terraces were rehabilitated and refreshed with layered planting, designed to soften the walls by growing in front of and over them. Blue and gold-hued blooms provide pollinator habitat during spring months.
New redwood & stone stair treads, flanked by native maple trees, lend warmth to the arrival experience down a steep hillside to the front door.
A refreshed entertaining deck takes advantage of existing views while accommodating a new hot tub and outdoor kitchen area.
The lower bathing garden remains more private, surrounding by a lush shade garden passively irrigated with recycled water.
